French lighting designer Jean Kalman made his Royal Opera debut in 1994 on La traviata and has since lit Giulio CesareThe Turn of the ScrewDialogues des Carmélitesand Orfeo for The Royal Opera and Rushes – Fragments of a Lost Story for The Royal Ballet. He returns in the 2018/19 Season for La traviata and Billy Budd.

Kalman was born in Paris. He has collaborated with directors including Pierre Audi, Peter Brook, Robert Carsen, Rufus Norris and Deborah Warner.
