About
Martin Kušej, born in Carinthia in 1961, first studied German and sports studies, then directed in Graz. From 1993 he was a permanent director at the Schauspielhaus in Stuttgart, staged at the Burgtheater in Vienna and at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg as well as at the Zurich Opera House, at the Salzburg Festival and at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. In 2005/06, Martin Kušej led the stage of the Salzburg Festival. Since the 2011/12 season, Martin Kušej has been the director of the Bavarian State Theatre. He continued to work internationally, including at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London or at the Festival d'aix-en-Provence. As of September 2019, Martin Kušej is artistic director at the Burgtheater Vienna.
