Overview

An evening of dance that glows with intimacy, emotion, and quiet power—perfectly suited for the warmth of The Parker’s intimate stage.

This reflective program explores the emotional depths of connection, vulnerability, and grace. Christopher Wheeldon’s This Bitter Earth is a haunting meditation on love and memory, set to the soulful layering of Max Richter and Dinah Washington. George Balanchine's exuberant Tarantella follows, bursting with joy, speed, and virtuosic flair. Jimmy Gamonet de los Heros’ Nous Sommes offers moments of elegant connection, while the vivid vignettes of Durante Verzola’s Sentimiento pulse with Latin rhythm and heartfelt nostalgia.

Subtle, stirring, and richly expressive—this is ballet that invites you closer.

A vibrant love letter to Miami, Sentimiento unfolds in a series of dance vignettes set to the sweeping piano works of Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona. Inspired by the city’s energy and romance—from sunlit beaches to candlelit clubs—Durante Verzola blends classical technique with Latin flair to explore themes of love, connection, and spirit. With expressive choreography, dynamic music, and lush designs by Esteban Cortázar, Sentimiento evokes a dreamlike Miami, rich with color, rhythm, and heart.

Set to a haunting remix of Dinah Washington’s soulful ballad and Max Richter’s On the Nature of DaylightThis Bitter Earth is a poignant pas de deux that explores love, loss, and memory. With sweeping movement and moments of suspended stillness, Christopher Wheeldon crafts an intimate, emotionally charged work that lingers with quiet power and poetic beauty.

A romantic and emotionally charged pas de deux, Nous Sommes explores intimacy through sculptural movement and masterful control. Set to selections from Songs of the Auvergne, this sensual, slow-burning ballet challenges dancers with its suspended motion and intricate partnering. At once tender and acrobatic, the work captures the delicate balance between strength and vulnerability—an evocative portrait of connection.

Balanchine’s Tarantella is a whirlwind of speed, sparkle, and playful bravado. Set to the lively music of New Orleans–born composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk, the pas de deux bursts with tambourines, dazzling footwork, and irresistible charm. Created in 1964 for Patricia McBride and MCB Founding Artistic Director Edward Villella, this virtuosic showcase captures pure joy in motion.
